Welcome!

Well, it's been 12 days since I bought my black 2006 Prius with #7 package (everything except leather) from Grossinger Toyota in Lincolnwood, IL. We're still in the honeymoon phase, but I've already seen a lot in the first two weeks that should make for interesting fodder. Each day I'll highlight something good, bad, or otherwise interesting. So let's get started!

Corngrats on your new Prius. Ours is only 3000 miles old and we wonder if you have noticed the same conflict: that is, Toyota suggests oil changes at 5,000 miles while our dealer suggests 3,000. Obviously the dealer would like to see us more often, but we prefer the longer interval as it wastes less oil. Thoughts?

Something to look forward to: Our 2005 Prius popped a headlamp the other day. Calling the dealer with the VIN gave us the news that it is an HID and not a halogen bulb. HID bulbs supposedly last longer and are guaranteed to blind oncoming drivers! Dealer price for one bulb: $428. I called another dealer, sure this was impossible. Result: Same price. I skipped calling the local independent car parts retailers and went straight for the Internet. Identical bulb (by Philips): $57 (including shipping). If a bulb is $428, can anyone afford not to maintain an after-market warranty on everything imaginable on the Prius?
